Ten years ago today, Virgin Australia launched its inaugural flight between Sydney and Los Angeles. Since arriving at LAX airport for the very first time, Virgin Australia has now flown 4.1 million passengers to and from Los Angeles on almost 14,500 flights.

To celebrate an entire decade since Virgin Australia first said G’day to the USA, the airline is giving you the chance to win flights and two nights’ accommodation for you and three mates to live the life in LA.

Virgin Australia isn’t afraid to look back at the fashion and trends from 10 years ago and is asking you to show how far you have come in the past 10 years by posting a photo of you with the hashtags #YoureA10 and #VirginAustralia. Be it from your 10th birthday party, throwbacks from 10 years ago or even your 10-year wedding anniversary.

To kickstart the throwbacks, here’s what went down in 2009:

  • Kevin Rudd was Prime Minister of Australia
  • 21 million people were living in Australia
  • The iPhone 3GS launched
  • We were glued to our TV’s watching Gossip Girl
  • Peanut Butter was the craze
  • Neon was everything, and so were thin eyebrows and gladiator sandals
  • The top song of the year on Australia’s charts was ‘I Gotta Feeling’ by The Black Eyed Peas
  • Virgin Australia had almost 6,000 employees

Virgin Australia’s loyalty program, Velocity Frequent Flyer, had 1.8 million members

Ten years later, here’s how 2019 is shaping up:

  • Australia has had seven more Prime Ministers
  • Almost 26 million people are living in Australia
  • The iPhone 10S is now the latest model iPhone
  • Game of Thrones season 8 is about to drop
  • The current top song is ‘7 rings’ by Ariana Grande
  • We love Peanut Butter more than ever
