amazingThailandVisa, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Airports of Thailand (AOT), and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration are joining hands for the first time to launch the Thailand Spectacular Year End 2013.

Visa designed this unique program to support tourism spending in Thailand, and to meet the travel needs of tourists at every step of their journeys to the Kingdom – from planning, arrival, at destination and departure.

The Thailand Spectacular Year End 2013 will offer Visa cardholders exclusive promotions, gifts and rewards for travellers, including special offers for airline tickets (such as AirAsia) hotel accommodations (such as Agoda.com, Thai Hotels Association and select hotels in Pattaya), mobile phone packages at Thailand airports, and gifts, as well as shopping and promotions at top restaurants in Thailand. Leading department stores in Thailand will also offer privileges and discounts of up to 50 percent.

A campaign highlight for cardholders is taking place throughout the season at Suvarnabhumi Airport and Don Muang Airport. Travellers just need to show a sales receipt for transactions on their Visa card made in Thailand during the offer period to receive a free ‘New Year Gift’ as they depart the Kingdom[1].

Somboon Krobteeranon, Visa Country Manager, Myanmar and Thailand, believes there is greater opportunity to drive tourist spending in the Kingdom, particularly given Visa’s long-standing collaboration with TAT. Visa is working to ensure Thailand continues to strengthen its position as one of the most visited destinations in the region through travel campaigns and upcoming programs.

“We are proud to collaborate with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Airports of Thailand, and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, for the first time to debut the Thailand Spectacular Year End 2013 program for cardholders traveling to the Kingdom. Thailand continually ranks as a premier travel destination, and this is evidenced by the double digit growth in spending by international Visa cardholders. Across Southeast Asia, inbound spending by Visa cardholders is the strongest in Thailand[2], but we believe there’s even more we can do to support the tourism industry and the economy. That’s why we, along with valued partners, continue to develop unique seasonal programs like the Thailand Spectacular Year End 2013 with more to come.”

Vilaiwan Twichasri, Deputy Governor for Tourism Products and Business, says, “The TAT recognizes the importance of the Thailand Spectacular Year End 2013 as it is in line with Thailand’s efforts to stimulate travel and tourism, both international and domestic. This campaign focuses on favorite activities for the year end holiday season, which are dining, traveling, and shopping. We are proud to collaborate with our long-standing partner, and we are collaborating with Visa, the Airports of Thailand and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration for the first time to make sure that this holiday season is a great experience for both domestic and international travelers at every step of their journey: from their arrival at the airport, during their stay, to their departure. We also will give visitors a chance to see unique holiday decorations throughout Bangkok.”

“Additionally, the Thailand Spectacular Year End sale will offer special deals from the period staring November 15 – January 15, with exclusive promotions at shopping malls, hotels, and restaurants. Our main goal is to establish Thailand as one of the premier destinations to spend New Year’s whether it be Ratchaprasong, Siam Paragon, or any region of Thailand.

International and domestic tourism is experiencing upward momentum in the Kingdom. In fact, the recent Visa Travel Intentions Survey shows that Thais plan to double their travel budgets from 1,304-2,501 USD per trip, the average global travel budget is also set to increase from 2,390-2,501 USD. These figures point to increasing travel budgets among Thais and international visitors looking to splurge on their excursions to tourism hubs across Thailand[3].

Sirote Duangratana, Senior Specialist, Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited, says “The period of October 2013 – March 2014 is peak tourist season for Thailand, AOT expects the number of visitors to our airports to reach 48 million people, most of this number is passenger traffic through Suwannabhumi Airport. Therefore, AOT is proud to support this campaign along with Visa and TAT in order to create these exclusive campaigns for travelers in order to support the growth of tourism in Thailand.”

This is the start of more to come as Visa works with valuable partners like TAT and top merchants to deliver travel offers and rewards for cardholders. “In coming months, Visa will bring its global Travel Happy campaign to Thailand, in an effort to connect locals and international visitors with their passion for travel,” concluded Krobteeranon.
