Visa Partners with Leading Online Merchants to Launch Exclusive eCommerce Cardholder Offers Platform in Thailand

Visa is establishing its eCommerce footprint in Thailand by launching an exclusive offers platform for cardholders, connecting them with leading online merchants, such as Agoda, B2S, Lazada, Ensogo, Groupon,, WeLoveShopping and Zalora.

This strategic move is spurred by the rapid growth of eCommerce spending on Visa cards as more Thai cardholders turn to the web for anytime, anywhere shopping. Consumers also feel safer shopping online as the eCommerce ecosystem continues to mature in Thailand. Mainstream adoption and online spending by Visa cardholders is driven by the availability of industry security standards, such as Verified by Visa, an added security layer that verifies the identity of Visa cardholders at checkout.[1]

Somboon Krobteeranon, Visa Country Manager, Myanmar and Thailand, believes Thailand’s eCommerce ecosystem has reached a tipping point, and online spending will soon catch up with spending in traditional brick and mortar stores. To drive the evolution of Thailand’s eCommerce ecosystem, Krobteeranon says it’s critical that industry players, such as Visa, local financial institutions and online merchants, work collaboratively to better meet the needs of today’s connected Thai consumers.

“Visa research has shown that an overwhelming majority of cardholders in the region – more than 90% – shop online.[2] Our strategic goal is to continue driving the development of eCommerce in Thailand, connecting cardholders in urban and rural areas with the global marketplace. We are committed to joining hands with local banks and merchants to ensure all cardholders enjoy a secure, convenient and seamless payment experience when they pay with their preferred Visa card–whether online or offline,” said Krobteeranon.

Now through the end of the year, Visa cardholders in Thailand will be offered exclusive promotions when they shop online with their Visa Credit or Debit card at select retailers[3]. Visa cardholders get up to 10% discounts, cash back offers, specially priced items and more from leading travel, shopping, and dining merchants.[4] In coming months, Visa will unveil new eCommerce programs with key partners across Thailand that connect cardholders with the best of online shopping – from offers and exclusive promotions to unique experiences.

Chatchai Payuhanaveechai, First Executive Vice President, Kasikornbank, says the potential for eCommerce in Thailand is vast. As the holiday shopping and travel season approaches, eCommerce growth is being driven by both credit and debit cardholders spending more online than they have in previous years.

“The shopping landscape is changing, with a larger number of people going online on tablets and smartphones. eCommerce is set to be the next major growth area for Thailand with consumers buying various things from books, CDs, fashion pieces or even groceries online. With partners like Visa, we can ensure that the entire customer experience is seamless – from discovery and browsing to customer support and secure online payments,” said Payuhanaveechai.
