egtmedia59Tourism Malaysia launched Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2014 globally during its eight day sales mission in India and Sri Lanka last week.

Tourism Malaysia Director General, Yg Bhg Dato Mirza Mohammad Taiyab said at the press conference in Mumbai: “The year promises a lot of activity with more than 250 events scheduled for both leisure, business visitors. Motor sports, Formula 1, four international golf tournaments, cultural and religious events are projected for enthusiasts.”

Colours of 1Malaysia and Borneo Cultural Festival celebrate culture. Fabulous Food 1Malaysia stretches over three months. Music lovers can look forward to Rainforest World Music Festival in Sarawak, Sunset Music Festival in Sabah, Penang World Music Festival.

Dato’ Mirza said: “India is an important market for us not just for numbers, but also for quality.  Besides the famous attractions in Kuala Lumpur, we have a plethora of offerings planned to welcome our Indian guests. From being the world’s favourite shopping destination to having the world’s best beaches, from the most relaxing spa vacations to golfing holidays, from weddings and honeymoon locales to helicopter tours, one can be assured of perfect custom made holiday”.unnamed (1)

Col Shashidharan VSM, AFV, Chief Relationship Officer Orbitz Corporate and Leisure Travels told eGTM: “Malaysia is popular with Indian leisure and also corporate travelers. There is still scope for it to tap the growing student traffic, especially those pursuing graduate and post-graduate study who like to travel for hands-on experiences at various establishments.”

In the aftermath of the recent mishap of Malaysia Airlines flight MH 370, Dato’ Mirza has reassured that strict International safety standards are adhered to at Malaysia airports for visitors’ safety.

Malaysia received 25.7 million tourists and tourism receipts of RM65.44 (USD 19.83) billion in 2013. VMY 2014 is targeting 28 million arrivals and RM76 (USD 23.03) billion in receipts. Tourist arrivals from Sri Lanka were 64,051 in 2013, the number is expected to increase to 70,000 this year. 650,989 Indian travelers visited Malaysia in 2013, maintaining its position as the sixth top tourist generating market and 780,000 to 800,000 Indian visitors are expected this year.

New ecotourism destination The Royal Belum Rainforest is spread on 3,000 sq. km and is home to over 3,000 species of flowering plants, including three species of the largest flower, the Rafflesia. The 40 member trade delegation lead by Tourism Malaysia interacted with 400 trade delegates in Mumbai and Delhi on the 18th and the 20th. Colombo, Kochi and Bengaluru were covered during the previous week.
