Tourism-MalaysiaThe newly appointed Tourism & Culture Minister for Malaysia has chosen Australia and New Zealand as the first destination to launch the Visit Malaysia Year 2014 to the travel industry.

The Minister, Hon. Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri Bin Tan Sri Abdul Aziz, arrived in Australia on June 19, to host a media conference in Melbourne announcing the launch of Visit Malaysia Year 2014. He will also host a series of travel industry events in both Melbourne and Perth.

Visit Malaysia Year 2014, comprises an intensive tourism campaign that will promote Malaysia to Australians and other countries around the world. The global campaign is set to drive a target of 28 million tourists to the country next year, of which the campaign hopes to target 620,000 Australians, nearly a 25% increase from 2012 visitor arrival figures.

Commenting on the Australian sales mission, the Honourable Minister said Australia is a key market for Tourism Malaysia making this mission important to identify ways to grow visitors.

“Australia is a key market for Malaysia, with visitor arrivals from Australia to Malaysia growing year-on-year. In statistics received so far this year short term visitors from Australia to Malaysia are up 6% compared to the same period in 2012.

“I feel there is great potential to increase this further and having only recently become Tourism & Culture Minister, I wanted to visit our key markets to identify ways that we can attract more visitors to Malaysia.

“During my time here I will be engaging with travel wholesalers, retailers, airlines and the MICE industry to find new ways for us to work together to promote Malaysia to Australians in the lead-up to Visit Malaysia Year 2014,” said YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri Bin Tan Sri Abdul Aziz.

Last year over half a million Australians travelled to Malaysia. This makes Australia the eighth top producing market for Tourism Malaysia.
