Mrs.Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports will visit Sydney, Australia from 16 – 18 July 2016 and visit Auckland, New Zealand from 18 – 19 July 2016.
The purpose of this event is to meet with selected wholesalers, travel agents and media in Australia and New Zealand to inform The Tourism Authority of Thailand ’s new strategic policy for 2017.
TAT is to start shifting the structure and directions of the national tourism industry towards a new value-based offer in order to position Thailand as a Quality Leisure Destination.
TAT goal now is to move the industry from offering “Value for Money” to “Value for Experience” and focus on the “Unique Thai Local Experiences” to create valuable and memorable experiences to quality tourists by creating value tourism products and upgrading product standards such as Wedding & Honeymoon, Health & Wellness Tourism, Ecotourism, Sports Tourism and Women’s Journey to Thailand. This will mean greater emphasis on promoting Thailand through Thai culture, experiences and way of life.”
TAT will also develop a broad range of marketing communications material in line with the objectives to highly give greater prominence to the “Unique local experience of Thailand” on the world stage. The Amazing Thailand brand will remain in place supported by powerful narratives called “Discover Amazing Stories in Amazing Thailand” to ensure that Thailand is seen as a ‘Preferred Destination’ in the minds of international visitors. At the same time, visitor arrivals will have to be managed by greater focus on sustainability and management of the natural resources.
In 2017, the target is to raise revenue earnings from international visitors by 10% to 1.89 trillion Baht.
TAT has a continuous range of festivals, trade shows, international conferences, and other cultural and heritage events designed to grow international and domestic tourism flows. This year, Thailand will be the host country for the annual World Tourism Day marked on 27 September under the aegis of the UN World Tourism Organisation. In 2017, Thailand will also host the Summit of the World Travel and Tourism Council in April and the Destination Wedding Planners Congress in May.
On 17 July, Mrs.Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports will visit TAT’s stand at Sydney’s Bridal & Honeymoon Showcase at Australian Technology Park During her time in both cities, she will also meet with Thai senior government officers to discuss ways to better work together to promote Thailand in Australia and New Zealand and to strengthen overall bilateral relationships.
Mrs. Wattanavrangkul took a role as Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports in August 2014. Before taking the role as the Minister, she has been widely recognised as one of the most outstanding and successful business women in Thailand. Examples of her awards include “2004 Leading Women Entrepreneurs of the World (LWEW) Award”, “Thailand Top 100 HR 2007 Award” from Human Resources Institute – Thammasat University”, 2012 Outstanding Business Woman Award” from Thai Chamber of Commerce, Her last role in private sector was the Chairperson of Thai Toshiba Group of Companies.
