egtmedia59Visitors from China spent USD 4.2 billion in 2012 in Australia, more than travellers from any other country, according to Tourism Australia’s China Market Profile.

“Compared to other out-of-region destinations, Australia ranks very highly for value for money, interesting local wildlife, luxury accommodation options, natural beauty and ease of obtaining a visa,” Tourism Australia said in the report. Rembrandt - www.rembrandtbkk

“The research shows that Australia delivers a positive holiday experience that exceeds the expectations of Chinese visitors,” it said.

Meanwhile, the Annual Report of China Outbound Tourism Development 2013 said the number of international trips by Chinese travellers and their spending swelled eightfold over the 12 years to 2012.

The annual report, by the Beijing-based China Tourism Academy, said the number of international trips by Chinese travellers rose from 10 million in 2000 to 83 million in 2012.

Last year, travellers from China outspent those from any other country, spending a record AUD 102 billion on international tourism, up from USD 13 billion in 2000.

This year, visitors from China are forecast to make 94.3 million trips overseas, up 18% from 2012, and spend USD 117.6 billion, up 15% from the previous year. By 2020, the figures are expected to soar to about 250 million visits with total spending of USD 150 billion.

In 2012, China overtook the UK as Australia’s second largest inbound travel market, with 626,400 visitors spending a record USD 4.2 billion over the year.

Record spending looks set to continue with 373,300 visitors from China arriving in Australia in the first six months of 2013, ABS data showed.
