Medical Forum and Race Pack Collection in Penang

Date: 28 September 2014

Venue: Botanic Gardens Pavillion

Time: 8.30am- 12.30pm

 This Sunday28 September 2014, there will a Race Pack collection in Penang at the Botanical Gardens Pavillion (opposite hawker stalls) from 8.30am – 12.30pm. The collection is for Early Bird and Stage 1 participants.

 This is followed by a Medical Forum at Northam Hotel from 2.30pm-6.00pm. The forum will feature an orthopedic specialist, physiotherapist and dietician. They will be discussing about runner’s diet, and how to prevent injuries during the run.

Nine Emperor Gods Festival Celebration 2014

Date: 24 October – 1 November 2014

Final send off = 1 November 2014

The Nine Emperor Gods Festival is an annual Taoist celebration held from the first day to the ninth day of the lunar month. Celebrate mainly in Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia, the festival ushers the nine sons of Tou Mu, Goddess of the North Star who is believed to control the books of life and death.

For nine days, devotees will observe vegetarian diet to cleanse their body and soul.

One can find a variety of vegetarian stalls along the roads and lanes around Penang with delicious and creative vegetarian cuisines.  Some of the stalls don yellow cloth or signage indicating that they serve vegetarian food.

Navratri Festival 2014

Date: 25 September – 4 October 2014

Venue: Various temples in Penang, Waterfall Temple.

 Navratri Festival is a Hindu religious festival that takes place during the first nine days of the seventh month in the Hindu calendar. The festival is similar to the Nine Emperor Gods Festival celebrated by the Taoist.

During these nine days, devotees pray to the Hindu goddesses, Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati in hopes of power, wealth and knowledge. A chariot procession also takes place on the final day of the festival.

The first three days are devoted to Durga, the goddess of destruction, who devotees pray to for strength and power. On the first night, she is believed to be cleansing the Earth for the celebration and teenagers are often encouraged to return home early lest they get in her way. Alters honouring Durga are erected in Hindu temples, with her idol often seen as riding a lion.
