Passionate, articulate and personable defines Harvey John Thompson, General Manager of W Taipei. His hard work and perseverance earned him more than 30 years of experience and knowledge in the hospitality industry.
As the newly appointed General Manager of W Taipei, Thompson is responsible for all areas in the hotel including future development of associates, product improvement, and financial performance, peril of financial performance, brand compliance and guest satisfaction.

Born in Sydney, Australia, Thompson’s career milestones include working in various reputable hotel chains in Fiji, France, Hong Kong and Malaysia. His first taste in the hospitality industry began at the tender age of 19, when he was Trainee Manager in Bronte Inn, Australia, an 80-room Boutique Hotel in Sydney. Thompson was exposed in different areas and quickly learnt the ropes of the hotel’s daily operations including rooms, kitchen and food and beverage. His career in Starwood began when he joined the Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas, Australia in 1988. He then moved to the Sheraton Noosa Resort, Australia in 1994 as Room Division Manager. Prior to his appointment at W Taipei, Thompson was General Manager of Le Méridien Kuala Lumpur for 5 years. Under his leadership in the various properties and brands, Thompson has made exceptional changes to improve the hotel’s operation, service and facilities. His strategy is to focus on incorporating each brand values, origins, forward looking products and services to the local culture of each city in mind.
Thompson’s top priority is his guests. He continues to be a leading example to his staff in exceeding service standards. When not on hotel grounds, Thompson is a family man who loves spending quality time with his wife and three daughters.
