Water pours on Delta pax and United catches fire

July 4, 2017 Headline News No Comments Email Email

Two disturbing events hit separate US domestic flights at the weekend, with water pouring from the ceiling and soaking passengers on a Delta flight, while a United flight landed at another airport with one of its engines on fire.

No one was hurt in either incident. Video footage of passengers on the Delta flight shows many in remarkably good humour about the water pouring down on them, with one man using an in-flight magazine to intercept the flow and deflect it away from his shorts.

The water fell on about six passengers. The son of one of the passengers put some lively video footage of the incident on his Twitter account, which can be seen here. https://twitter.com/TomassoLP

The video shows passenger Tom McCullough dealing with the sudden waterfall on the Delta flight from Atlanta to Florida on Friday.

Cabin crew reportedly dealt with the flow by stuffing napkins into the ceiling, which didn’t really work, but fortunately it’s not a long flight. Delta later blamed “an air conditioning condensation issue”. The airline said it had “reached out” to affected passengers “to compensate them for impacting their travel”.

MEANWHILE, the other incident, involving fire rather than water, saw passengers speedily evacuated from a United Express jet at Denver International Airport when the plane’s left engine burst into flames after landing on Sunday afternoon.

The plane was a twin-engined Bombardier heading from Aspen to Denver. Video and social media pictures showed the drama which affected more than 60 people aboard the jet.

This shows some of the action, with fire trucks speeding to the plane and pumping fire retardant on the flames.

And this gives an audio recording of flight crew talking to air traffic controllers at the airport.

All 59 passengers and four crew escaped without injury and airport fire crew quickly extinguished the fire.
