Greece, Spain and Italy have climbed the charts as the highest growing outbound destinations according to Webjet.
The data tracked Webjet booking growth between January to August 2014 and compared it to January to August 2015.
Proving Australians still have the European travel bug, Greece saw an overall YOY increase of 162% while Spain and Italy saw an increase of 107% and 91% respectively.
“With improved connections worldwide from ports like Abu Dhabi and Dubai, it is now much easier, direct and cost-effective for Australians to travel to Europe’s less travelled destinations” said John Guscic, CEO of Webjet Australia.
“Australians are starting to look at connections which give them direct access to destinations such as Spain, Greece and Switzerland.”
Not far from the top of the list were Turkey and Switzerland, both with large increases, while other European destinations like Sweden, Ireland, Denmark and the Czech Republic also featured.
Perhaps most surprising on the list of 2015’s most popular emerging destinations is Cambodia. The South East Asian nation saw a 63% rise year on year, further proving Aussies are looking for new experiences outside their regular go-to holiday spots like Thailand and Bali.
