Weekend Getaway to the Hunter Valley

NESTLED in the serenely beautiful Segenhoe Valley, near Scone New South Wales, some of the most successful thoroughbred breeding operations in Australia are abuzz with excitement at this time of year.  
With approximately 15,000 thoroughbred foals born each year, the Australian breeding industry truly comes alive in Spring, with leading International stallions standing in the finest barns and unsteady foals taking their highly anticipated first steps.

_44H0086 (2)Sydney-based Young Professionals in Racing (YPR) have charmed their way through the gates of several prominent stud farms to create the perfect October getaway package for their members and guests. 

The schedule, which runs from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 October features private tours of Darley, Vinery and Arrowfield Studs, personally hosted parades of stallions including champions Redoute’s Choice and Lonhro and a visit to Paul Messara Racing.

Saturday afternoon will unfold at the charming Arrowfield Guest House with a relaxed BBQ lunch provided while guests enjoy all the racing action live on television from Caulfield Cup Day.

YPR Chair Kathryn Thomson says, “Most of our member activities are naturally based in Sydney around racing, training and sales, this tour is something different and a fantastic opportunity to experience the world which produces the horses we cheer home on race day.

_44H0119“In fact, some of the young stallions we’ll see like All Too Hard, Sepoy and Smart Missile were racing in Sydney only a season or so ago.”

YPR is a not-for-profit association supported by the thoroughbred industry, aimed at engaging the next generation in horse racing. The group hosts a range of events throughout the year in connection with key industry events, providing an opportunity for members to generate new social and professional connections within a network of like-minded racing enthusiasts.
