Two of Australia’s largest transport and tourism operators, SeaLink Travel Group and AAT Kings have teamed up to jointly invest in the national and international promotion of the Tiwi Islands as a tourism destination, signing a new Marketing and Destination Development Partnership Agreement.
“The agreement recognises the important role that both SeaLink and AAT Kings provide in Tiwi Islands tourism destination development and sets out an arrangement for both parties to work with the enterprises and people of the Tiwi Islands, toward building the destination’s tourism potential through to 2020.” Says Jeff Ellison, CEO, SeaLink Travel Group.
“Our 2015 tourism numbers to the Tiwi Islands increased by 120% over 2014, and we are seeing increased demand in our forward bookings. This new agreement will ensure continued national and international promotion by both companies, supported by Tourism NT, to boost awareness of the destination both domestically and overseas.” Continues Mr Ellison.
Anthony Hayes, CEO, AAT Kings adds, “The Tiwi islands have been an important part of the AAT Kings portfolio for a number of years and we highly value our relationship with the Tiwi people. We are really pleased to see this new focus on tourism development for the Islands.”
In a further boost to the tourism season, SeaLink has announced additional ferry services to the Tiwi Islands, operating on Mondays during the peak/dry season, also providing additional tour capacity. This brings the services to four times a week, on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.
