“We are happy to invite the local farms from Taipei and the plum farm from Kaohsiung and to let our guests take actions to support sustainability. To doing so, we’ve made more efforts of Corporate Social Responsibility and contributed to our homeland – Formosa Taiwan.” shared Mr. Cary M. Gray, General Manager of W Taipei.

Hotel Chefs Play with Local Ingredients

W Taipei’s executive chef Colin Chun and Sweetologist Yu Mei Ho work hand-in-hand to present 5-star take-out deli, light food and pastries with Taiwan ingredients which go well with the picnic theme. The premium western menu includes Berries green salad (Miaoli Dahu strawberries), Pumpkin salsa (Taidong pumpkin), Pickled chili (Hualien green chili), Duck pate (Yilan cherry duck), Vietnamese roast beef salad, etc.  And Sweetologist Ho makes the mouth-watering sweets, like Pizza bread, Rosemary olives bread, Lemon cake, Maple pecan tart and so on. The menu may be adjusted by the weekly ingredients.

Taipei City Direct-Sourced Organic Farm Vegetables

It’s not easy to believe there are quite a few organic farms in the cosmopolitan capital – Taipei city. “Taipei Organic Farms”, which are consulted by Taipei city government, department of economic development, sells local organic vegetables and provides the veggie box delivery service. All products are certified by organic organizations (MOA or Tse-Xin) and regularly checked by Taipei city government to ensure the quality. Seven farms from the north and south of Taipei city joining Farmers Market this year bring seasonal organic vegetables, including some special yet rare ones, and homemade organic herbal tea on site.

Food Expert Advocates From-Farm-To-Table Dining Concept

Andy Chou, Taiwan nutritionist and food expert, has dedicated himself to research Taiwan local ingredients and slow-food culture who specially recommends 2 Taiwan brands for this event. First, “Social Enterprise NEWAYS 2021” established the plum farm in the Kaohsiung aboriginal villages on the express road 20 & 21 which was devastated by typhoon Moraka in 2009. And the social enterprise devotes the revenue back to the community infrastructure and humanity. It sells over-10-year-fermented natural plum products and Balsa jam.  Secondly,“freshONE Supermarket” promotes healthy life style and selected non-toxic food products from Taiwan aboriginal tribes, including organic 120-day-sun-dried rice from Hulain and eco-friendly handmade cane sugar and natural fig jelly from Chiayi. Guests are welcome to try the fig jelly washing activity on site to taste the freshness of the fruit.
