AUSTRALIA’S best known China specialist Wendy Wu Tours is marking the 21st anniversary of Wendy’s first group tour to China by opening an office in Auckland, increasing the number of offices to five.
It is the latest step among a number of expansion moves which include establishing major offices in London, New York, Shanghai and an outlet in South Africa.
Wendy Wu arranged her first group tour through an Epping travel agent with which she was acquainted with, and in 1994and took her first ever “China Highlights” tour with 20 people. She found rapid popularity by word of mouth which led to her hanging out her Wendy Wu Tours’ shingle in 1998
As the Australian market boomed and with repeat customers looking for other destinations with the great value fully inclusive group tour attributes, she added programs to Vietnam in 2001 and released a comprehensive India program three years later.
Her London office opened the same year and was followed by a New York branch opening in 2010.
Rapid growth followed with the reintroduction of Myanmar and expansion continued with the launching of Japan in 2012. A horizontal growth opportunity came along in 2014 when WWT was appointed to operate Singapore Airlines Holidays program in Australia.
As for 2015, along with the 21st anniversary celebrations and the opening of the Auckland office, the company also celebrates the first departures of its Deluxe Holiday Range which were introduced to the market last year.
