Tasmania’s West Coast Wilderness Railway will be celebrating Yulefest and welcoming guests aboard for a four hour train journey with piping hot mulled wine, a festive themed menu and merry decorations.
Yulefest Journeys will run aboard the Wilderness carriage throughout July priced at $160 for adults and $90 for children (16 years and under), or $365 for a family (two adults and two children). Christmas will come early for children as they will also receive a small gift on board.
West Coast Wilderness Railway General Manager, Michael Saville said: “Interestingly, we are seeing a spike in interest in travellers, particularly from Queensland, who are embracing the true seasonality of the Tasmanian winter. Yulefest is right at home in the cool climate of Tasmania making the tradition a perfect fit for our visitors as they access some of our most remote wilderness.”
In addition to the Yulefest Journeys, the Railway will continue to operate throughout the winter months offering two “Steaming Winter” Rack and Gorge and River and Rainforest itineraries that will run six days of the week. These winter journeys will allow guests to take in Tasmania’s wilderness in style aboard the historic train carriages.
The Rack and Gorge Steaming Winter Journeys – departing Queenstown every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday – will showcase the beauty of the King River Gorge and stunning rainforest as the railway climbs the steepest railway gradients in Australia using the rack and pinion system for which it is renowned.
For a change of scenery, the River and Rainforest Steaming Winter Journey – departing Strahan every Monday, Wednesdayand Friday – will offer stunning views of the harbour before snaking along the river and heading inland through thick rainforest.
On both trips, guests can sit back and enjoy vistas of the surrounding wilderness as they traverse numerous bridges and enjoy spectacular views of the majestic King River, while listening to enlightening commentary about the region’s rich and colourful history.
Steaming Winter Journeys depart at 10am and return at 2pm six days a week in the Wilderness Carriage and include a complimentary glass of sparkling wine, canapés, freshly baked scones, a light lunch and coffee and tea served throughout. Steaming Winter Journeys are priced at $160 for adults and $90 for children.
