2018 is set to be another blockbuster year on Broadway, with new shows, milestones and experiences to delight travellers of all ages.

Rebecca George, Broadway Inbound Trade Sales Manager, Australia and New Zealand, says: “There’s so much to look forward to in 2018 on Broadway. We’re celebrating incredible milestones for some of our classic shows and adding some fantastic performances to the Broadway Collection. Hollywood celebrities will be gracing the stage and groups will be able to delve even deeper into Broadway via our experience workshops. It’s going to be a big year, and as always we recommend travellers book in advance with their preferred travel agent to avoid missing out!”

New to Broadway – New buzz-worthy productions to see in 2018 include:

  • Escape to Margaritaville – a refreshingly hilarious, heart-warming, getaway musical featuring some of the most-loved Jimmy Buffet classics and choreographed by Tony Award nominee, Kelly Divine, and winner, Christopher Ashley. Guaranteed to get your toes tapping and your soul singing! Tickets now selling for performances between 16 Feb – 18 Nov 2018.
  • The Ice Man Cometh – two-time Academy Award winner and Tony Award winner, Denzel Washington, returns to Broadway for a feature role in this dark and boozy 1964 classic. Get in quick, this play is showing for 14 weeks only. Tickets on sale now for performances between 22 March – 1 July 2018 with a run time of 3h50.
  • Frozen – Disney’s latest musical based on the hugely popular film that sees the timeless tale of two sisters pulled apart by a mysterious secret and searching for love. It’s one of the most anticipated shows of 2018, and it’s recommended visitors book well in advance. Tickets now selling for performances between 22 Feb – 30 Dec 2018.

Celebrate Broadway Milestones – Two monumental Broadway shows will celebrate milestone performances in 2018:

  • Phantom of the Opera – a definitive Broadway classic, the show will be celebrating its 30th year on Broadway, with over 12,390 performances since its 1988 debut.
  • The Lion King – another crowd favourite and perfect for Broadway go-ers of all ages – will be commemorating its 21st year on the stage, with more than 70 million people having seen the performance worldwide.

Alternatives to popular and sold-out shows – Broadway is a popular attraction for both New York locals and visitors alike so it’s always recommended to book tickets in advance. For the more spontaneous travellers who find their most desired shows to be booked out, here are some alternatives:

  • If Disney’s Frozen was their original pick, then we recommend the new SpongeBob Squarepants show as fun family friendly alternative that creatively reimagines the beloved Nickelodeon series – an unexpected hero rises to take centre stage when SpongeBob and Bikini Bottom face total annihilation. Tickets to SpongeBob Squarepants are now selling until 2 Sept 2018.
  • If Dear Evan Hansen was their sights, then the emotionally-charged The Band’s Visit, which follows an Egyptian Police Band arriving in Israel to play a concert, is a beautiful option. Tickets to The Band’s Visit are selling now until 29 Apr 2018.

The Broadway experience – For groups looking to have the complete experience, bring the New York trip to life through a variety of customised Broadway workshops (note: minimum group numbers apply). Choose from basic or professional, music and dance classes, where visitors can meet some of Broadway’s most gifted artists, get technical about stage design, learn how to audition like a pro, sing in an orchestra, or even study the how-to’s of incorporating modern and ballet techniques in a contemporary dance class. It’s a great way to further delve into all things Broadway.

Broadway Inbound always recommends booking in advance through a travel provider to secure the best seats to preferred shows at a great price.
