FILM SCREENING: LA GUERRE DE BILL (BILL’S WAR)

Film screening in the Auditorium, Shrine Education Centre
Join Lambis Englezos and Tim Whitford as they introduce the Australian premiere of La guerre de Bill. A documentary using archival footage interwoven with coverage of the confirming dig of the mass burial pits at Pheasant Wood, Fromelles in 2008. This film has English subtitles.
The commemorative service for the Battle of Fromelles will take place at the Cobbers Memorial on the Shrine Reserve on Sunday 19 July, 1.30pm. All are welcome to attend.
FRIENDS TOUR: NATIONAL VIETNAM VETERANS MUSUEM
Thursday 23 July, 8.15am arrival for 8.30am departure from the Shrine
Cost: Friends of the Shrine members $65, non-Friends $75
This tour will travel to Phillip Island where visitors will enjoy morning tea upon arrival at the Vietnam Veterans Museum before taking a guided tour of the facilities. Light lunch will be included. Displays include tanks, a howitzer gun, vehicles and over 5,000 artefacts including memorabilia, photographs, scale models and dioramas.

Guided tours will run every hour (20 people per tour). Last tour at 2.00pm. Queue at the Visitor Centre.
In partnership with Open House Melbourne, join us for a tour of the Shrine including the newly opened Galleries of Remembrance. This state of the art permanent exhibition space is framed within the atmospheric original brick foundations of the Shrine, which were laid eight decades ago by ex-servicemen of the First World War. Since 2008, Open House Melbourne has been connecting people with design and architecture in the city, showcasing buildings of significance in a free and accessible format. Over 100 houses, buildings, infrastructure and landscapes are open from 10am- 4pm both days, but please check the Open House program or openhousemelbourne.org for opening times.
THE ANZAC BATTLEFIELD: LANDSCAPE OF WAR AND MEMORY

The enduring fascination with Gallipoli is explored in this exclusive exhibition which presents some 100 items recovered from the Joint Historical and Archaeological Survey of the Gallipoli battlefield (2010–14) supported by the Australian, New Zealand and Turkish governments. Historical and geographical context is provided by maps and engravings on loan from the University of Melbourne, the Mehmet Ugurlu print collection and the Turkish Naval Forces Command Museum. Join Professor Christopher Mackie of La Trobe University and Neil Sharkey, Curator of Exhibitions and Collections at the Shrine of Remembrance, on a tour of the Anzac Battlefield exhibition before it returns to Turkey. This exclusive exhibition presents over 100 items recovered from the Joint Historical and Archaeological Survey of the Gallipoli Battlefield (2010-14) along with the maps and engravings on loan from the University of Melbourne, the Mehmet Ugurlu print collection and the Turkish Naval Forces Command Museum.
