When: 28-29 September, 2019

Whether you’re a greenie at heart, wanting to reconnect with your inner zen or just have a great day out with the family, this awesome festival has something for everyone. Living Smart Festival is one of the largest and most forward-thinking enviro-festivals in Australia, raising awareness of environmental issues, fostering a love of the outdoors and inspiring residents and visitors to live more sustainably.

Living Smart Festival activities start at 8am on Saturday, finishing at 2pm. See Gardening Australia host Costa Georgiadis as headline speaker whilst enjoying yoga in the park, followed by a cooking demonstration with Masterchef 2019 finalist Steph De Sousa. Get creative with fashion, food and craft workshops or explore unique market stalls and awesome eco-living displays. Be sure to catch a Q&A with Instagram influencer Lee Sullivan and get up close with the cute, cuddly and quizzical animals at the petting zoo.

Come back for the ultimate Sunday session from 11am – 4pm and chill out with laid-back vibes by the Lake. Featuring a pop-up bar, food trucks and a family-friendly program of live music, entertainment and other activities – what better way to spend a lazy springtime Sunday?

Stay: Why not complete your go-green weekend by sleeping under the stars? Wangi Point Lakeside Holiday Park boasts a beautiful bush setting on the foreshore of Lake Macquarie and offers spacious campsites, cabins and villas.

Or, if you’re looking to sleep closer to the festival so you can make the 8:15am free yoga sesh, try The Brighton, boasting stunning lake views and situated within walking distance from Toronto’s best cafes and restaurants.

In between races and foreshore action, chill out at the Lake Mac Food & Wine Festival at Speers Point Park from 12 – 8pm on Saturday. Enjoy wine and beer tastings, cooking demonstrations, food trucks, and entertainment for the entire family.

There’s plenty to do over the two days – ensure that the vintage cars, the Show and Shine competition and Warners Bay markets are all on your must-see list.

Fun Run for Fernleigh 15

Where: Start in Adamstown and finish in Belmont

When: 20 October, 2019

Fernleigh 15, Lake Macquarie’s favourite fun run, is celebrating its 8th year in 2019. This is an awesome opportunity for runners (and walkers!) to complete the entire length of the Fernleigh Track without interference from bicycle traffic.

The course is 15km in total, but if just reading that gives you the sweats, you can enter as a relay with a group of five.

There will be prizes to be won for the top three men and women awarded on gun time, but you don’t have to come first to feel great – everyone that runs gets a medal!

Once you’ve completed the run, join your cheer squad and spectators at the Family Fun Zone and enjoy music, giveaways, a jumping castle, games and more, or retreat to the Afteryard recovery zone and share your sweaty battle stories.

Stay: The last thing you want to do after a 15km run is tackle the car trip home, so book a room at Caves Coastal Bar & Bungalows and kick up your feet! With delicious dining and ice-cold beverages on your doorstep – this is the perfect treat to end the day.
