Ahead of Independence Australia’s Accessibility Weekend 2019 on 7th and 8th September, LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre has added wheelchair-using Minifigures to its MINILAND Melbourne exhibit to represent accessible venues across the city.

Independence Australia’s annual event sees some of Victoria’s most celebrated and accessible venues open their doors for free to wheelchair and mobility aid users and their carers.

Roy Davie and his son Tyler visited LEGOLAND Discovery Centre to make their own wheelchair-using Minifigures, which they placed in MINILAND Melbourne ahead of Accessibility Weekend.

Now in its 15th year, Accessibility Weekend celebrates the significance of accessible venues and tourist attractions Victoria-wide and highlights the importance of access and inclusion for people living with a physical disability. Accessibility Weekend forms part of National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Week.

LEGOLAND Discovery Centre is thrilled to be a part of Independence Australia’s Accessibility Weekend by offering free entry to wheelchair and mobility aid users and their carers. It’s a great opportunity to celebrate accessible venues in Melbourne and to encourage more venues to promote inclusion and positive representations of those living with a disability,” said Katie Isaac, General Manager at LEGOLAND Discovery Centre.

Visitors can also bring their own Minifigures to LEGOLAND Discovery Centre this weekend to trade them for Minifigures from the attraction’s collection, which includes wheelchair-using Minifigures.

Independence Australia Chief Executive Officer, Peter Turner said Accessibility Weekend connects with the organisation’s objective to support people living with a disability or personal need to regain and retain their independence within a supportive community.

“Accessibility Weekend is an invaluable opportunity for Victorians living with a disability, their families and carers to enjoy the inclusive access each participating venue has to offer,” Mr Turner said.
