Where’s my Rolex? Intimate hiding place tricks Aussie

egtmedia59A lurid story in the New York Daily News last week gave readers insights into the perils faced by Australian visitors to the city, along with an ingenious hiding place for a stolen item.

A woman, described in some reports as a masseuse, was charged for allegedly hiding a stolen Rolex watch in her vagina while giving an Australian tourist a rub down.

The Aussie tourist was said to be an Offshore Powerboat competitor.

The two apparently met in a bar late at night and went to the man’s room at the Holiday Inn on West 26th Street at about 4.30am, where the woman started giving him a massage, the man told police.

When the masseuse complained that the man’s Rolex, worth about USD 25,000, was scratching her during the massage, the Aussie is said to have removed it and placed it on the nightstand next to the bed. Ten minutes later he found his watch was gone.

Subsequent events led to the aggrieved Australian pursuing the woman into the hotel lobby.

The masseuse is said to have hit the victim “over the head several times with a closed fist” as she tried to flee the hotel, the criminal complaint states.

Police intervened. It turned out that while telling the Australian that his watch had fallen behind the nightstand, the woman had secreted the stolen Rolex “in her vaginal cavity”, prosecutors and the New York Police Department allege. She was arrested on suspicion of grand larceny and robbery.

Police said the suspect had a record including armed robbery, failing to appear in court, forgery charges, prostitution and battery.

The Holiday Inn has declined to comment.
