According to data released by travel insurance provider, WorldNomads.com Western Australians are last minute organizers when it comes to taking a holiday.

If the final thing on your pre-departure checklist is ‘buy travel insurance’ then sandgropers are running things down to the wire says WorldNomads.com.

Either that or they’re the most spontaneous and care-free travelers.

The insurer looked at data for 2017 which reveals how soon before departure Australians purchased cover.

  • It seems NT’s are the least organized overall with 68% of them purchasing their travel insurance a week or less before departure. (42% purchased within 1-7 days).
  • ACT & TAS residents are the most organized with 23% purchasing a policy a month in advance.
  • When it comes to the very last min travel insurance purchased, WA takes the crown followed by NSW.
  • VICTORIANS (26%) seems to be slightly more organized than their NSW & QLD counterparts.

WorldNomads.com says there are advantages to purchasing cover earlier rather than later; the investment you’ve made is protected if there are any unforeseen events that cause your trip to be canceled (Bali ash cloud anyone?), and the premium is locked in.
