With the launch of the 2018-19 Antarctic cruise season, One Ocean Expeditions (OOE) takes the lead in the polar expedition cruise market. With its expanded fleet, superior science and educational opportunities and partnership with world leading nature and wildlife protection and conservation organizations, OOE gives conscious travellers more reason to explore the Southern Ocean.

Early trip planning is a must when traveling to the Antarctic, particularly with the high demand for 2018 and early booking offers currently available.

The recent acquisition of new vessel RCGS Resolute is adding 146 berths to the company’s inventory. The slightly bigger and comfortable vessel will begin its operation in the Antarctic in November 2018. The A1S Lloyds ice class rated vessel offers the highest quality amenities and safety features in the industry.

OOE will operate the RCGS Resolute in the same “expedition cruise” spirit as its other sister ships, the Akademik loffe and Akademik Sergey Vavilov. The authentic and friendly nature of the onboard staff, superior service quality and high staff to guest ratio (1:4) in addition to the exclusive educational and active programming are what differentiate OOE from other expedition cruise operations.

The 2018-19 programming provides diverse active adventures, exceptional learning opportunities and once-in-a-lifetime experiences travelling alongside world-renown scientists, researchers and reputable educators, artists and guest speakers.

The active programming is diverse and accessible to various age groups and fitness abilities. It entails sea kayaking, camping on the ice, zodiac wildlife viewing, snowshoeing and hiking excursions, plus unique landing sites and areas of interest to photographers and wildlife viewers. On specific departures, epic backcountry skiing and environmentally responsible sea kayak excursions are available.

Amongst other OOE educators and scientists joining the 18-19 season is Dr. Ari Friedlaender  known for his groundbreaking marine mammal research. Dr. Friedlaender re-joins OOE to continue his developmental research contributing to the creation of protected marine mammal sanctuaries. Ron Naveen, founder of Oceanites, and his team of penguin counters will conduct their extensive research on penguins’ behavior and adaptations with OOE again next year.

OOE is also partnering with the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Research Centre in the developmental efforts of a new scientific mobile laboratory to support microplastics research. This critical new space will provide scientists with on-site lab resources for more frequent and controlled data collection and analysis while in destination.

In the Antarctic, OOE also works with exclusive partner The Royal Canadian Geographical Society (RCGS) on multiple initiatives geared to the company’s five core pillars: education, exploration, science, socioeconomic development, and sustainable travel. In recognition of this important partnership and shared values, OOE’s new vessel is named RCGS Resolute after a British Royal Navy Arctic exploration vessel, as well as the Inuit town of Resolute in Canada’s Nunavut Territory.

“We are very proud to partner with industry leaders and support leading-edge scientific research, as well as offer the opportunity for our guests and staff to meet and interact with acclaimed scientists, artists and influencers in the intimate settings our expedition cruise vessels provide. If there is a time to plan a trip to the seventh continent, it’s now. The 2018-19 cruise season will be one to remember!”, says Andrew Prossin, Managing Director at One Ocean Expeditions.

Since its inception, One Ocean Expeditions has been supporting ongoing ethical science and outreach programs and providing opportunities for accredited institutions to further their work on each voyage. A true leader in polar expedition cruising, OOE operates voyages to the Antarctic and South Georgia from the end of October to the end of March. As well as operating in the Canadian and Norwegian Arctic and Canada’s EastCoast.
