Wild Bush Luxury, owner operator of some of Australia’s most inspirational bush and wildlife experiences, has proudly partnered with Tourism Australia and 11 of Australia’s leading, independently owned wildlife tourism experiences to form the Australian Wildlife Collection.

The new collection, announced by Tourism Australia this week, was established by some of Australia’s finest operators to showcase the nation’s best ‘wildlife in the wild’ encounters, connecting visitors to local ecosystems whilst also providing exceptional hospitality and guided experiences.

Arkaba, Wild Bush Luxury’s private conservancy in South Australia is one of the founding experiences forming the Australian Wildlife Collection, selected due to its joint vision and desire to bridge the gap between conservation and tourism.

Wild Bush Luxury’s founder, Charles Carlow, acknowledged the Australian Wildlife Collection as an important move for the tourism industry and one of which he is proud to be a part.

“Australia’s wildlife is in a class of its own and our incredibly specialised and fragile ecosystems host one of the most diverse environments on earth.  Unravelling the stories that lie behind Australia’s wildlife requires characters with both passion and knowledge and the establishment of the Australian Wildlife Collection, for the first time, brings together the diversity of the country’s habitat with a group of passionate wildlife operators, who are also dedicated to the conservation of Australia’s natural heritage.

“The Australian Wildlife Collection allows us to align with other tourism operators with similar aspirations, collectively working towards a more sustainable Australian tourism industry.”

Wild Bush Luxury has for 11 years engaged tourism as a means to conserve a sizeable area of beautiful and ecologically significant Australian landscape. In turn, the conservation work has become an active and important ingredient in the tourism experience.

The non-profit organisation is the latest to be included under Tourism Australia’s ‘Best of Australia’ group banner, joining other bodies such as Luxury Lodges of Australia and Great Walks Australia, of which Wild Bush Luxury is also a member.

Arkaba features on the Australian Wildlife Collection website alongside its fellow wildlife tourism operators. The online platform also provides access to engaging seasonal wildlife stories, nationwide journey options and in-depth content surrounding Australian biota.

These exclusive encounters are delivered from Arkaba’s rustically chic homestead, incorporating five en-suite bedrooms and exceptional service, or on The Arkaba Walk, a three night guided walk though spectacular outback landscape.

Immersive wildlife encounters at Arkaba involve guests taking part in tracking and identifying species, using habitat, geology and behavioural cues to genuinely immerse guests in the story of the bush.

There has been an extraordinary rebound in mammal, bird and reptile populations due to proactive management of feral herbivores and predators. This has seen the reestablishment of Yellow-footed Rock Wallabies and increased native bird sightings such as Owlet Nightjars, Stubble Quail, Horsfield’s Bronze Cuckoo and the White-winged Fairy Wren. The team has also reported increased mammal, avian and reptile sightings including Bearded Dragons, Gidgee Skinks, and Echidnas as well as greater sightings of Red and Western Grey Kangaroos and Common Wallaroos.

Its dedicated team in South Australia, under the leadership of Brendon Bevan, has overseen a remarkable transformation at Arkaba, with the rehabilitation of country after decades of sheep grazing.

By employing highly-trained field guides who have an in-depth knowledge and passion for the landscape, wildlife and conservation effort, Wild Bush Luxury has been able to transform Arkaba from pastoral land to a blend of tourism and conservation in a mutually beneficial partnership.

“We’re always looking for positive approaches to tourism that not only minimise our footprint on the land but also educate our guests on the importance of the conservation of Australian flora and fauna,” continued,
