Dramatic video footage showing a giant Emirates A380 coping with a hailstorm on landing – with windscreen wipers going flat-out – is notching up thousands of views on social media.
The footage from one of Britain’s great airport video photographers, who goes by the professional name flugsnug, shows the action on Youtube.
The flight was Emirates flight EK39 from Dubai. It took the hailstorm in its stride as it landed in Birmingham.
“I could see, horizon-to-horizon, the black sky as the Emirates monster turned onto finals, so knew there was a downpour coming. But it was only after a minute or so of rain that I realized I was now being pummelled into the ground by hail,” flugsnug wrote.
Flugsnug adds: “Check the “halo” of hailstones bouncing off the fuselage before and after touchdown!”
And don’t miss those two windscreen wipers – out of synch but going like crazy – visible after the landing, as the superjumbo nears flugsnug’s camera.
