The June edition of the forward-looking Wine + Dine New Perspective events on Thursday, 4 June 2014 at The Reflexions Modern French Cuisine, Level 03, Plaza Athénée Bangkok, A Royal Méridien Hotel, offers a rare opportunity to discover some of the feisty wines giving appellations from Washington State, USA, their rising kudos.

Moreover, the sommelier selected wines will as usual not only be tasted but paired with a tour de force three course menu of French contemporary cuisine created by The Reflexions dynamic new Chef de Cuisine Mark Jones.

Washington, on the west coast, is the only U.S. state named after a president: George Washington and it is no be confused with the country’s east coast capital, Washington D.C.

The evening features Washingtonian wines from two outstanding wineries: Chateau Ste. Michelle and Two Vines.

Located near Seattle, Chateau Ste. Michelle is Washington State’s oldest winery. Selected as “Wine Enthusiast” magazine’s 2004 American Winery of the Year, it produces Chardonnay, Cabernet, Merlot, and Riesling with Tuscan and Mosel partners in Italy and Germany.

In the Case of Two Vines, the perfect climate for growing grapes, paired with special trellising methods, creates wines that have earned a multitude of “Best Value” and “Best Buy” salutations.

An open-minded evening starts to unfold at 18:00 hrs with a convivial tasting of three notable Chateau Ste. Michelle wines, a Cabernet Sauvignon, a Syrah and a Riesling. As the wines coax and provoke pass-around tapas join lively conversation in complementing them.

Around 19:30 hrs the evening segues into an enriching dining experience where the wines are paired with a three course menu featuring two choices per course.

Chef’s surprise amuse bouche  is followed by either Carpaccio of beetroot, farmed goats cheese, candied pecans, watercress, aged balsamic OR Sweet corn veloute, confit chicken tortellini and wild mushroom,  white truffle oil. The main event offers Thirty-six hours slow-cooked rump lamb with roasted plum tomato, roasted zucchini & eggplant caviar OR Escabeche of line caught Wahoo mackerel, Fennel, carrot, saffron &olive oil. The final culinary crescendo is a choice of either Raspberry and vanilla sable, crème patisserie and raspberry sorbet OR Banana claffoutis, butterscotch sauce, coconut ice cream, candied pecans.

The tasting and dinner combined are priced only THB 2,100 net per person, including the wine tasting, the dinner and a complimentary bottle of either Two Vines Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Crest (white) or Two Vines Unoaked Chardonnay (red) for two paying guests.
