Wine Weekend Returns to Tasmania

June 28, 2017 Travel Deals No Comments Email Email

The annual Great Eastern Wine Weekend returns for its third year from 8-10 September 2017, showcasing the best food and wines of Tasmania’s East Coast.

The event offers an opportunity to explore Tasmania’s East Coast wine region through a variety of special events, with vineyards, cellar doors and tourism operators opening their doors across the weekend.

Rick Burge, of Burge Family Wines, will be a special guest for the weekend. The organic grower and winemaker from the Barossa Valley in South Australia exports his artisan wines around the globe. A wine judge and regular visitor to Tasmania, Rick loves nothing better than finding unique Tasmanian food combinations to match top-level cool climate Chardonnay, Riesling and pinot noir.

Meet the Maker | Freycinet Lodge | Friday 8 September

A range of winemakers from the East Coast region will be providing free wine tastings, product sales, information and good conversation on the deck of Freycinet Lodge. Delicious gourmet BBQ items will be available and Melshell Oysters will be shucking oysters for tasting.

The Great Eastern Wine and Dine Dinner | Freycinet Lodge | Saturday 9 September

The centrepiece of the weekend, a relaxed sunset feast at Freycinet Lodge overlooking Great Oyster Bay with canapés and pre-dinner drinks, followed by a four-course dinner featuring gourmet shared platters piled high with local Tasmanian produce matched to a selection of East Coast wines.

Each wine will be presented by its respective wine maker. Wine guru Tim Goddard and Freycinet Vineyard winemaker Claude Radenti return to host the evening. The event has been extended this year to include dancing to live entertainment provided by Clinton Hutton.

Lunch in the winery | Craigie Knowe Vineyard | Saturday 9 September 12.30pm-3pm
