Winners Of Inaugural Cheapflights Awards Announced

October 24, 2017 Accolades No Comments Email Email

Qantas and Sydney Airport have taken out multiple gongs at the inaugural Cheapflights Awards held in Sydney last Thursday night.Travel favourites across 18 categories – encompassing airports and airlines, experiences and travel media talent, and everything in between – were crowned following a three-month search and more than 14,000 votes.

While Melbourne Tullamarine Airport took out Favourite Airport – Metro, it was Sydney Airport that came out on top for Eating & Shopping and Security Experience. And when it comes to airlines, it was a landslide with Qantas claiming all four categories – Domestic and International Carrier as well as Crew and Inflight Entertainment.

In somewhat of an upset, Japan pipped Bali as Australia’s favourite Asia Pacific getaway destination with New York claiming the number one spot for long-haul travellers. When it comes to domestic travel and experiences, locals look to Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef and the Whitsundays as favourites.

Amy Wei, spokesperson of KAYAK and Cheapflights brands in Asia Pacific, said the Awards provided an ideal opportunity to celebrate and share excellence in the travel industry.

“The Cheapflights Awards are just one way we are celebrating the Australian industry, recognising the products and brands whom we work with day in, day out. It’s a truly exciting time to be part of such a vibrant sector, setting global best practice when it comes to quality of experience and the range of products on offer.

“It’s great to see so many partners at the Awards and we’d like to congratulate all of the winners and runners up,” said Amy Wei.
Attended by almost 100 partners, industry professionals, media and influencers at The Private Kitchen in Chippendale, the winners and runners up were announced by guest presenter and Australian personality, Laura Csortan, while DJ Feline helped each celebrate.
Shortlisted candidates across each category were selected by an expert judging panel of ten key travel and lifestyle media – including The New Daily’s lifestyle editor Susannah Guthrie, Lifestyle.com.au editor Sammy Preston and Fairfax Traveller’s Tripologist columnist Michael Gibecki – before being put to a public vote to choose the favourites.

More than 14,340 locals cast their votes from September through October, to confirm the winners. Thanks to awards partner Qantas Holidays, everyone who voted also had the chance to win a holiday to California worth $7,000.
