egtmedia59A 26-year-old woman who allegedly fell from a flower bed and hurt herself is suing the owners of Movie World on the Gold Coast for over half a million dollars.

The woman climbed onto the concrete ledge around a flower bed to get a better view of the popular All Star Parade and then fell while stepping down, sustaining back and wrist injuries, concussion and shock, according to her lawyers in documents tendered to Brisbane District Court.

According to the Brisbane Times, the woman’s lawyers allege in the documents that Village Roadshow Theme Parks was negligent in its duty of care by failing to warn the woman not to climb onto the flower bed.

The news outlet said the woman is suing for more than AUD 500,000.

It said Village Roadshow Theme Parks intends to defend the action, with its lawyers arguing that the theme park didn’t neglect its duty of care and that the plaintiff should have known she was standing on a garden bed.

I note the woman’s age, 26. Perhaps the upcoming generation finds it easier to make money by suing for negligence, than by taking personal responsibility for one’s own actions. It’s an indictment on both a sense of entitlement, as well as on the legal fraternity for allowing such attitudes to thrive.
