A woman has been jailed for two years and eight months for performing lewd acts on a 15-year-old boy while flying home from a school trip.
Jill Meldrum-Jones, 37, from Warwickshire in the English Midlands, a married teaching assistant, wept in the dock at Coventry Crown Court as sentence was passed upon her.
The court heard that she engaged in a variety of sexual acts with the boy “under the cover of darkness” on the 10-hour flight back to England from a school trip abroad, the Daily Mail online reported. Other similar acts took place on the trip itself.
Meldrum-Jones pleaded guilty to five charges of sexual activity with a child and two charges of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
Judge Philip Gregory told Meldrum-Jones she “must have completely lost control of her senses and been consumed with lust for this young boy.
“You’re 37, he was 15,” the judge said. “That’s a substantial age difference, you and you alone are responsible for what happened.”
The judge said it “almost beggars belief” that someone of Meldrum-Jones’ background, “happily married with two children” should behave in such a way.
He told the defendant, who has a 12-year-old son and a seven-year-old daughter, that she and her family “need to understand that judges have to follow the law and have to implement it”.
