Travelling around the world I see and experience some amazing hotels and resorts, but if one location has arguably the best selection of hotels to suit all budgets, but especially the top end, then it has to be Dubai.
Two hotels and resorts that really epitomise what Dubai’s incredible luxury hotels are all about, one has to be the landmark Burj al Arab, perched in the waters of the gulf and the other has to be the Atlantis The Palm, Jumeirah, located at the tip of the amazing The Palm, Dubai.
Atlantis The Palm, which opened in 2008 and is visually famous for its massive arch, which I was able to visit and also experience from an incredible and “you must do” Seawings flight around Dubai [pictured], was the first resort to be built on The Palm, themed on the myth of Atlantis, with distinct Arabian elements, having become a hallmark of Dubai glitz and glamour, stunning guests and visitors ever since it opened.
With an incredible 1,539 rooms, the nautically themed resort is even further complemented by the stunning and great fun Aquaventure water park and the very popular Nasimi Beach which frequently hosts concerts and other events, with the opening of the resort in 2008, a stunning who’s who of local and international guests and performers, including Charlize Theron, Dan Ilic, Shah Rukh Khan, Robert De Niro, Janet Jackson, Lily Allen, Amit Kumar, Mischa Barton, Chris Tucker, Michael Jordan, Wesley Snipes, Andrea Colognoli, and Lindsay Lohan, with Priyanka Chopra chosen as the Goddess of Atlantis to inaugurate the resort and Australian diva Kylie Minogue performing alongside Lebanese singer Nawal Al Zoghbi at the event.
A light show of moving images illuminated the hotel, with 100,000 fireworks, around seven times the amount at the
opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, let off in just 15 minutes and across the full 5 km of The Palm, lighting up the entire island and Atlantis, The Palm, with custom-made shells shipped in from across the globe creating a massive light spectacle taking off from the 716 firing locations around the island, including 400 balconies at the resort, with it gets even better, with display creator Fireworks by Grucci claiming the display set a new world record at the time,.
Without doubt Atlantis The Palm is now also one of Dubai’s leading event venues, with the 2015/16 New Year’s Eve Royal Gala held on the Atlantis Beach described as a celebration to rival all others, with canapes, champagne and welcome drinks in Asateer before the full venue opening up, with a 30 piece live band kicking off the night’s entertainment and playing through until 3:00am, the bar open all night serving unlimited premium alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks including free flowing champagne and a luxury buffet serving everything from Lobster and Caviar through to Shawarmas and Fajitas and live cooking stations as well as children friendly buffet stations and to top it all off, Gala guests also enjoy fantastic views of The Palm, the Dubai skyline and the spectacular Atlantis itself, which features in Dubai’s world leading spectacular firework display.
With a very impressive choice of top quality restaurants and eclectic venues within the property, I was fortunate enough to be invited to attend and enjoy a rather surreal and I have to say, amazing world class event in Atlantis Lost Chamber as part of Arabian Travel Market in 2015 … and what an event it was!
