World Expeditions Launches New Patagonian Trek – On the World’s Southern-Most Island

Adventure travel specialist, World Expeditions, has cemented its position as the leading remote wilderness trekking specialist with the launch of a new trek alongside pristine alpine lakes, glaciers and the jagged rock pinnacles of the world’s southernmost island.

Described by Lonely Planet as one of Patagonia’s best treks, the 6 day Dientes Circuit on Navarino Island offers walkers stunning views of jagged mountain peaks, the Beagle Channel, the Chilean town of Puerto Williams, Nassau Bay, the Wollaston archipelago – and Cape Horn.

The 42km Dientes de Navarino Circuit is a challenging, remote wilderness trek on Navarino Island, during which walkers spend 3 nights camping and 2 nights in lodges.  Trekkers carry full-packs, although World Expeditions offers a personal porter service at an additional cost.

Departing Punta Arenas or Ushuaia, the Dientes Circuit on Navarino Island is available between December and March and costs AU$3190 per person, including Punta Arenas – Puerto Willliam return flights, all meals, expert bilingual guides, the use of a gear pack including sleeping bag, insulated sleeping mat and hiking poles, group camping equipment, group medical kit and a porter carrying camping equipment and food (not personal equipment).

World Expeditions CEO, Sue Badyari, said she was delighted to be able to bring the Dientes Circuit to the Australian market.

“We know our travellers are looking for experiences that challenge them and that offer access to places out of the reach of mainstream visitors,” Ms Badyari said, “so it’s incredibly satisfying when our efforts pay off and we’re able to craft these unique itineraries and bring them to the Australian market.”

The company has recently also added two incredible new treks including the rarely accessed country behind the Fitzoy and Cerro Torre peaks: the 7 day Fitz Roy & Cerro Torre Backcountry Trek reaches remote regions by having walkers cross the Fitz Roy River by highline before traversing sections of glacier to Paso del Viento (pass of the winds) to get amazing views of remote parts of the Southern Patagonia Ice Field and the 11 day Fitz Roy Circuit and Icecap Traverse, which circumnavigates the peaks.

“Neither of these self-sufficient expeditions involve high altitudes or technical climbing, yet they are two of the wildest, most visually inspiring treks and it’s very unlikely that trekkers will meet others during their time on these remote ice field and glaciers,” says Ms Badyari.

Another standout Patagonian experience is the 15 day Great Patagonian Traverse, a journey by boat and on foot through some of Patagonia’s most inaccessible national parks from Coyhaique in the north to Puerto Natales in the south.  Much less physically challenging than the trekking expeditions, the Traverse involves day walks with lodge and refugio accommodation, yet offers an opportunity to journey through an incredibly difficult-to-access part of Patagonia.

World Expeditions also offers a comprehensive range of guided and self guided treks in the Torres del Paine National Park, including a 5 day Torres del Paine W trek Self-Guided, an opportunity to walk one of the world’s best hikes independently and with expert advice and logistical support.
