The XIX Congress of the Pan American League of Associations of Rheumatology PANLAR 2016 was held in Panama City, Panama from April 11th to 14th, 2016. The event was an interesting and complex challenge since day one to all of those involved in the Organization, The Panamanian Society of Rheumatology, PANLAR, Congrex Panama and the Country itself.
It is only natural to think that the destination chosen for holding a Pan American Congress will guarantee important attendance levels only through local members and specialists. In this case, Panama had a bigger challenge as there are only 14 rheumatologists registered in the local Society.
After 2 years of hard team work with a consolidated scientific institution like PANLAR, a united and focused team like the Panamanian Society of Rheumatology and a tireless technical team like Congrex Panama the positive outcome of that effort came through.
Congrex Panama supported PANLAR and the Local Organizing Committee in advertising and promoting the Event to participants in 4 continents. Coordination involved 36 suppliers, register and assist 1,350 participants from 39 Countries, managing a team of over 250 people, facilitate over 3,000 room nights in 6 hotels and exchange not less than 4,000 emails. These numbers may sound ordinary to an event professional but what it is truly extraordinary and satisfactory was to create an unforgettable and highly pleasant experience to our client and participants in general. We have achieved to establish a strong long-lasting relationship with our client being able to bring proud to a country by helping positioning it as a prime destination for important international events.
“The Panamanian Society of Rheumatology is very pleased with the professional work performed by the Congrex Panama team. We worked hand in hand for 2 years. Despite the challenges and difficulties, Congrex Panama always dealt with it with creativity and efficiency to overcome every single one of them”added MD. Ramon Perez Acuna, President of the Local Organizing Committee.
Cinthya Uzcategui, Congrex Panama’s Director of Operations tell us in a joyful metaphoric way “My colleagues and clients jokingly say that I have no nerves, of course I do, and they betray me every now and then but I deeply trust in the integrity and institutionally driven force of our clients, the professionalism of our suppliers and the commitment of our Congrex Panama team; having such a magnificent support and getting the best out of yourself will ensure that the result will be always positive”
PANLAR sent a survey to the 1,350 participants that attended the Congress, a 24% response was achieved where the results showed that 96% of those taking the survey said that they will attend a PANLAR Congress again. Also, Panama as a destination was considered by 90% of the answers as a destination with excellent connectivity, very hospitable and great infrastructure. Regarding the Scientific Program, survey participants said that the program was inclusive, diverse, and innovative and spotted on the current reality of the specialty. Last but not least, the financial results achieved the projected goals which will contribute to both PANLAR and the Panamanian Society of Rheumatology to keep supporting its programs for the development of young professionals and the specialty per se. The survey answers reflects the positive results of a focused analysis, great dedication, hard efforts and teamwork of this group deeply and highly engaged and committed to PANLAR.
