TravelManagers’ personal travel manager, Lucy Phillips, representative for Banksia Park in Adelaide, went to the extreme to ensure she completed her mission to raise $5,000 in five weeks in support of Youth Incorporated (Youth Inc.).

Phillips fundraising journey, which was nothing short of adventurous, was also filmed as part of a television documentary ‘Adventure of a Lifetime’ that will screen at 5pm on 30 November on Channel 7 Adelaide.

“Although it was hard to leave my five year old twin boys and three and a half year old daughter for the week, the Youth Inc. charity really resonates with me. This has been the most incredible adventure I have ever been on and I’m so grateful to have been able to make a difference for disadvantaged youth, but also undertake such a life changing experience personally,” says Phillips. fireman 3

The ‘Adventure of a Lifetime’ television documentary follows twelve inspirational participants from South Australia who each committed to raise $10,000 over five months as they partake in adventurous activities which are sprung on them. Phillips was accepted into the documentary at the last minute with the challenge of raising $5,000 in five weeks.

“We did not know where we were going from one minute to the next, so the anticipation and excitement was always there. We drove in a Porsche, experienced being a firefighter, swam with sharks and stingrays and I even faced my fear of abseiling,” says Phillips.

Phillips’ relationship with Youth Inc. perfectly complements her personal travel manager business.

“I love travel and personal development is very important to me. My travel business specialises in transformational style-travel that opens the heart. There is a growing niche market for people wanting to experience life changing holiday experiences, that allow them to come home with a renewed sense of passion, excitement and knowledge that they can use in their lives,” says Phillips.

Family and business support has been invaluable explains Phillips.

“My mum has been amazing, I recently moved from Melbourne to Adelaide and she followed to support me and my entry back into the travel industry. TravelManagers has been so incredibly encouraging, allowing a single mum to work around my family commitments within a business model that is flexible and most importantly profitable. The fact I can also help the local community is the icing on the cake. This is my absolute dream job.”

Michael Gazal, TravelManagers’ Executive General Manager applauds Lucy for her community spirit.

“We think it’s fantastic how Lucy has immersed herself within the community so quickly. Her proactive approach and entrepreneurial enterprise is an inspiration to all personal travel managers. TravelManagers loves to encourage and support any of its personal travel managers with their community involvement,” says Michael Gazal, TravelManagers General Manager.

Phillips plans to continue her work with Youth Inc.

“As an ambassador for Youth Inc. I will continue to raise funds that will assist disadvantaged youth to find work and stay employed.  I will also mentor future participants, supporting them with raising money, fundraising ideas and keeping focused,” says Phillips.
