Accommodation Industry To Benefit From Qld State Budget
Queensland’s Newman Government is continuing to demonstrate its commitment to tourism by committing funding to major events – including the 2018 Commonwealth Games – in its first State Budget.
The Accommodation Association of Australia has welcomed the commitments and the benefits that will flow from it for the industry.
“It is pleasing that the Newman Government and Tourism Minister Stuckey are continuing to show support for the accommodation industry through funding for major events,” said the Chief Executive Officer of the Accommodation Association of Australia, Richard Munro.
“Given the tight fiscal environment, it would have been difficult to secure this funding, meaning this is another clear signal that tourism is a high priority for Queensland’s leaders.
“The Commonwealth Games is one of a number of developments which are set to revitalise the Gold Coast and the accommodation industry more broadly in Queensland.
“Confidence is really starting to grow within the accommodation industry as a result of the support the Government is providing.”
Mr Munro said the spread of events throughout Queensland is likely to also result in increased returns for operators of accommodation businesses outside the south-east corner of the state.
“It’s no secret that the accommodation industry in places like Cairns and Townsville has recently experienced fluctuating fortunes, which is why it is important to stage events in these important centres,” he said.
