Angel Fire Resort today announced plans to open a multi-station zipline tour at the summit of the Angel Fire Resort ski mountain in July 2012.

The Angel Fire Zipline Adventure Tour will be the first of its kind in New Mexico. On the signature segment of the tour, adrenaline seekers will fly fifty-stories above the forest floor as they traverse from peak to peak, side by side, on a 1,600’ foot tandem zipline.

“We’re always looking out for new attractions and innovative ways to add more fun and excitement into a family’s Rocky Mountain vacation. This will be the first zipline tour in the state and we are confident it will be a great experience for both kids and adults to enjoy,” said Dave Dekema, director of marketing, Angel Fire Resort. “A zipline melds perfectly with our mountain’s topography, the scenic views, and the existing infrastructure of our ski mountain. Not to mention it’s an absolutely unforgettable, thrill-a-minute experience.”

For the uninitiated, a zipline is a station-to-station adventure ride, which consists of a cable stretched between points of different elevations, a pulley, and a harness or bar for attaching a rider, who moves by gravity. A zipline tour connects multiple ziplines of varying lengths and descents. Ziplines are among the most popular new attractions at many destination resorts, ski mountains, and even on cruise ships.

The Angel Fire Zipline Adventure Tour, built by Geronimo Construction, will start at the 10,600’ summit of the ski mountain, and will proceed in a station-to-station tour around the mountaintop. The tour will include 6 separate zip line segments of varying lengths, including the one dual tandem ride. Everyone new to the sport will be offered a short “flight school” zipline near the top for lessons and practice, as well as a tandem or “racing” zipline to allow family and friends to ride side-by-side together. The cost of the Angel Fire Zipline Adventure Tour is $89 per person.

The zipline tour is part of Angel Fire Resort’s new Summit Adventure Center, a new activity park at the top of the resort’s ski mountain. The Summit Adventure Center will also include Eurobungie, mountain biking, disc golf, horseshoes and scenic hiking trails. Guests will take a ride to the top of the Chile Express chairlift where they can take part in the Zipline Adventure Tour, enjoy lunch at The Summit Haus, as well as enjoy the rest of the activities.

Summer Adventure Lodging and Activity packages are available through the resort for as low as $89 a night. The resort is also offering Summer Adventure Passports free to all lodging guests. A $500 value coupon book, the Summer Adventure Passport offers special pricing on the Summit Adventure Center as well as other activities throughout the surrounding area, including fishing, golf, tennis, rafting, horseback tours, spa getaways and shopping.

The Summit Adventure Center will open on Memorial Day weekend. The grand opening of the Angel Fire Zipline Adventure Tour is planned for July 1, 2012.
