AIS Presents Amazing Thailand 9FilmFest Contest
Given about nine minutes, just how easy is it to find love? Sound tough? Not for the aspiring creative filmmakers, directors, and producers of the Amazing Thailand 9FilmFestival Contest. Now in its second year, AIS presents the Amazing Thailand 9FilmFest Contest, featuring an internationally renowned, highly prestigious panel of judges, in search for a breakout filmmaker or two, who is ready to burst onto the scene, with a 600, 000 baht prize at stake.
On Wednesday 21 March at Paragon Cineplex, H.E. Chatri Yukol joined Mr. Brian Bennett, founder of 9FilmFest, title sponsors and well-known film directors and producers at the press conference of AIS presents Amazing Thailand 9FilmFest.
Brian Bennett spoke about the origins of the 9FilmFest project and announced this year’s signature theme: the “hea
rt”. H.E. Chatri Yukol, one of the festival’s judges, emphasized the theme, expressing that the short film should be “produced from the heart, and will be judged based on the creative usage of this signature theme.” Also accompanying the international panel of judges will be Academy Award winner George Miller of Australia; Thai Cannes Palme d’Or winner Apichartpong Weerasethakul; Writer’s Guild America Award Nominee and Executive Producer of ALIEN David Giler; and 2011 9FilmFest Finalist Khun Kanin Ramasoot, Director of NETVIGATOR, freelance Editor/Director of Bangkok. Together, they will decide which film will win the Amazing Thailand Best Film award of 600,000 baht.
Khun Sugree Sitivanich, Executive Director of Advertisement and PR, TAT, said that “the unique opportunity presented by 9FilmFest has created a platform where the filmmakers’ art can be passed down, and the beautiful stories of Thailand can be told and shared.”
Khun Pornrat Janejaratsakul, VP of Marketing Communications, AIS, announced their support of the event, and expressed an appreciation for the creative, modern lifestyles
for the new generations the event showcases. AIS also emphasized its support for the festival in that values the idea that amateur filmmakers are able to communicate new concepts and ideas through a 9-minute film without
unnecessary complications and investments. With the developing advancements in mobile technology, filmmakers are better able to make 9-minute short films through various applications, and adapt it to his or her style, accordingly. This in turn, allows these 9-minute short films to be viewed anytime through the various OS and mobile device systems without limitations. AIS is involved in the 9FilmFest to provide encouragement and support to those who are passionate about filmmaking, to maximize their potential creativity.
Khun Adisai Sirisingh, Ford (Thailand) Marketing Director shared that Ford supports 9FilmFest because it “matches the Ford vision in its concept of ‘connectivity’”, mirroring the concept that “Ford connects people.” Ford announced that it would reward this year’s winner with a Ford Fiesta for 3 months, including all gas expenses paid.
Mr. Jim Patterson, General Manager of the Paragon Cineplex and IMAX explained that the Major Cineplex Group was proud to be a part of the festival, and endeavours to “support new & upcoming filmmakers into the movie industry, based upon creativity.”
Finally, Khun Soodrat Janyawong, Manager of Promotions, Thai Airways stated that not only are they sponsoring a round trip to Beijing, China for the winner, but they will also “be airing the winning film as part of the in-flight entertainment selections to over 70 different destinations,” during and throughout the summer season.
The press conference concluded with a viewing of the last year’s finalist film “The Elevator” and a panel discussion of the Director and Producer of Pig-O-Nine Production Khun Nisa Kongsri and Khun Kanin Rammasut about filming methods and technicalities.
AIS presents Amazing Thailand 9FilmFest
To enter Amazing Thailand 9FilmFest the entry requirements are simple. All films must be 9 minutes or less from opening to closing credits. All films must have the signature HEART appear in some capacity duringthe film. Additionally, films must make their premiere at the AIS Presents Amazing Thailand 9FilmFest.
A committee will review submissions and select semi-finalist films. Following, the 9 Finalist Films will be selected, and a Gala VIP Amazing Thailand 9FilmFest Finalist Dinner will held on 13 June, at the VIE Hotel, honoring their selection. These outstanding films will be recognized and be included in the Amazing Thailand 9FilmFest Contest to be held on 17 June at Paragon Cineplex. All films will have the opportunity to win a share of over 1 million baht in cash and prizes, including the first prize award of 600,000 baht.
AIS Serenade customers can view the short films submitted through wap.mobilelife.co.th/9filmfest or www.ais.co.th/9filmfest and vote for their choice for the best short film. If the short film voted for by the Serenade customer wins, they will have a chance to win an iPhone 4S. Voting starts 24 May to 14 June.

Submissions are requested as early entries before 23 April 2012 (400 baht entry fee) and regular entry fee (450 baht) before 7 May 2012. Your entry fee will be donated 20% towards Baan Gerda HIV foundation.
