Flagship of Contemporary Shanghai Restaurant ‘The Dining Room’ Opens at Hysan Place, Causeway Bay

Contemporary Shanghai restaurant concept The Dining Roomopens its anticipated flagship venue in Hysan Place, Causeway Bay on August 10.

Located on the 12/F of Hysan Place in the heart of Causeway Bay, The Dining Room features a spacious 3,500 sq. ft. venue with 146 seats, which includes impressive communal tables to seat 24.

With bright, white interiors and minimalist design, the new brand is a celebration of “newShanghai with new Shanghai cuisine” featuring their trademark semi-open Shanghai cold dish and dim sum kitchen positioned at the heart of the restaurant as the central focal point.

Different styles of seatings such as booths, benches, high stools and square dining tables with 4 different wooden designers’ chairs create modern, chic and layered look in the restaurant. The wall-to-ceiling glass windows with the cosmopolitan city view with natural sunlight create a warm, cheerful and homely feeling. Diners will also find classic “Phoenix” bicycles which were manufactured domestically in Shanghai with fresh ingredients aside to resemble the 60-70s Shanghai.

Masterminding The Dining Room menu is Deputy Executive Chef Tony Huang, a gold prize winner in national cooking competitions and protégé of legendary dim sum master Ge Xian E.

Delicious signature dishes celebrating the launch include a cold appetizer of Candied Whole Mini Pumpkin with Lily Bulbs where the pumpkin is cut into pieces, steamed thoroughly and then added to syrup of sugar and salt to create a light appetizer to start.  

Also on the menu to celebrate the flagship store is dim sum of Soft & Crispy Bun with Minced Pork, Bamboo Shoots & Shanghai Eggplant with filling of stir-fried eggplant, pork,Lei bamboo shoots, Zhenjiang dark vinegar, and bean paste where it is fried on one side to create a delicate crispy bun served in paper bag, thus easier for diners to enjoy.

Guests can also choose from other signature dishes including Longhua Temple Beancurd Skin Rolls which is a perfect choice for vegetarians and Rice in Soup with Seafood in Shanghai Style featuring a rich and aromatic chicken soup base with luffa melon, squid and clams added.

For dessert guests can finish off their meal with a Mini Pumpkin Cake with Red Bean Pastewhich sees a mashed pumpkin form to dough and kneaded into round dumplings, served as a simple but delicious end to the meal.

Headlining the menu of Shanghainese dim sum and dessert specialties are ‘Shanghai Platters’ perfect for sharing and also an ideal portion for afternoon tea. “The Dining Room Appetizer Platter” with four cold dishes is priced at HK$68. Dessert platter of two puddings and two pairs of Shanghai sweet dim sum are HK$58.

The Dining Room opens daily from 11:30am-11:00pm. To celebrate the grand opening month in August, The Dining Room flagship venue in Hysan Place will open daily from 11:30am till mid-night.
