Following the recent refurbishment programme, the Michelin two-star Shang Palace Chinese Restaurant at Kowloon Shangri-La,Hong Kongis turning over a new leaf and giving its cuisine a new dimension from 5 September 2012.
New facilities have been added to the expanded restaurant, including a brand new, dedicated wine cellar inside the restaurant as well as a 20-seat grand private dining room in addition to three other private dining rooms. The rejuvenated décor, setting and chinaware offer guests the essence of a luxurious but relaxing and comfortable dining experience.
“ShangPalacehas been part of the hotel since day one. The restaurant is fortunate to have a loyal following who have kept returning for the past three decades and, therefore, we were sensitive to their needs in the upgrading plans. The key word is ‘evolution’ as opposed to ‘revolution.’ We are not trying to changeShangPalace’s tradition but rather developing its classic, signature elements,” said Timothy Wright, general manager of Kowloon Shangri-La,Hong Kong.
Interior designers from LRF Designers Limited were the creative minds behind the whole refurbishment project, managing to bring the owners’ visions into reality. “We retain the same colour schemes as the formerShangPalace. Hues such as red, gold, white and beige are still being widely used throughout the restaurant,” said Charles Robertson, managing director of the design firm.
“We expect the new 42-square-metre grand private dining room to become a popular private party and entertainment venue, day and night, not only for the regular guests but also for guests from the business sector as well,” said Mr Wright. With over 550 French, Italian andNew Worldwines and a dedicated sommelier, the wine cellar caters to a wide spectrum of palates.
Helmed by Executive Chinese Chef Mok Kit Keung, under whose direction the restaurant earned two Michelin stars in the 2012 edition of the Michelin Guide,ShangPalace showcases contemporary interpretations of the Cantonese classics. The new à la carte menu includes over 50 new dishes and six new private dining menus prepared by a team of accomplished Chinese chefs under the guidance of Chef Mok. A wide-ranging list of speciality teas has been carefully selected to complement the dining experience.

The renovated Shang Palace can seat 146 guests and offers a range of dim sum, set lunch and à la carte menus for lunch from noon until 3 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday and public holidays. Offering a range of set dinner and à la carte menus to tempt the discerning palate, the restaurant opens daily for dinner from 6:30 to 11 p.m.
