In line with the growing popularity of rail services in Europe Melbourne-based rail specialists International Rail are expanding services to offer rail services in China, Vietnam, Thailand and Korea.

The new options will add to an already extremely healthy business selling rail services in Japan.

Managing director Jonathan Hume said that although rail was not traditionally high on the priority list for travellers in Asia, demand from Australian travellers has been growing rapidly as the technology and infrastructure of rail is developing in these countries.

He added, “Like Japan where many cities are now connected by the JRL, China has now introduced a new high speed train network of extremely high quality. Currently the most efficient way to travel between the major centres such as the Beijing to Shanghai, from only $138 per person,  is to use the high speed route which opened last year and has reduced the journey to just under five hours”.

In Thailand the most popular route is from Bangkok to Chaing Mai and Phuket, which provides a great way to see the countryside in a comfortable and convenient way.

Overnight trains are also increasing capacity with routes in Thailand and Vietnam being a great alternative for people saving on accommodation whilst reaching their next destination.
