Stenden Rangsit University welcomes record number of international students in Event Management program to Thailand
This week, Stenden Rangsit University has welcomed over 100 international Stenden students for its 10-week study programs.
Not less than 88 students of this group enrolled for the popular program Event Management. With this record number of students, Stenden Rangsit University sets yet another academic landmark with its 10-week Event Management minor program.
Based on the successful learning frameworks from the main campus in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands, and in close collaboration with the campus in Bali, Indonesia, the program has become the most popular study choice for Grand Tour students in Thailand. The Grand Tour concept enables Stenden students to study and work at one of the branch campuses in the Netherlands, Bali, Thailand, South Africa, or Qatar. All of the visiting students are enrolled in one of the many bachelor’s programs at the Stenden campus in Holland.
Within the framework of Stenden’s unique Grand Tour concept, students can study 10 or 20 weeks at one of the foreign campus sites of Stenden; Bangkok, Bali, Holland, Qatar or South Africa. All of the 88 students just finished their 10 week introduction of Event Management at the campus site in Bali and are now ready to put their knowledge of Event Management into practice in Thailand.
Event Management is a crucial segment within the tourism industry and MICE travelers are known to have a higher spending average than leisure tourists, making it a competitive and ever-developing segment for which participating students are specifically trained. Event Management 2 at Stenden Rangsit University covers Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE), students work with a strong focus on the eclectic local conditions.
Jens Dallmann, Module Coordinator at Stenden Rangsit University describes Bangkok as “not only the center of high-quality international events in Thailand and South East Asia, but a leading destination for MICE travelers from around the world. The local industry provides a perfect learning playground for our international students, both in terms of academic quality and consolidation of cross-cultural management skills.”
Complying with Stenden’s Real World Learning philosophy, students take the role of event organizers working together with experienced industry experts who hire students for the organization and planning of real-life events. These projects can be as real as travelling through Thailand to meet suppliers and other stakeholders in business meetings. This makes it unique and very different from a traditional classroom setting. The uniqueness of the program is also characterized by the strong international focus. Students spend the first half of the complete 20-week program at Stenden University Bali before fully engaging with Bangkok-based clients with various nationalities.
The industry experts who function as clients to the students are of the highest caliber, representing the leading organizations and venues in the international MICE industry in Bangkok. Some of them have been involved ever since the professionalization of the local industry in the seventies. The involvement of representatives from renowned organizations such as BITEC, Siam Paragon Hall, the Imperial Queen’s Park Hotel, TCEB (Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau), PATA (Pacific Asia Travel Association) and many other industry leaders are essential pillars of the program. Stenden Rangsit University prides itself to welcome such a high number of MICE-interested students to Thailand and all participants are excited about the coming weeks.
