Zermatt Accessible Again

Switzerland Tourism has shared that train services to the popular ski-resort of Zermatt has resumed.

Due to heavy snowfall, mountain ski lifts, ski runs and train services were temporarily closed on 9 and most of 10 Jan, leaving about 13,000 people stranded. However, as of 17:15 Wednesday evening (Swiss time), the railway line between Täsch and Zermatt resumed services after the track had been successfully cleared of snow. The train line between Visp and Täsch is still closed, but replacement buses are being used to help transport people in and out of Zermatt.

Much to the delight of the holiday-goers, the ski-resort has also partly reopened, reporting excellent snow conditions and up to 3m of snow, which is perfect for all sorts of winter activities.

No holiday-goers were in harm’s way during their stay in the Zermatt village during the closure; and a helicopter air-bridge was set up to help transport people in and out of the resort, including those who had to leave the resort urgently.
