Ziptrek goes from orange and green to rainbow in support of DNA Gay Ski Week QT 2014

Queenstown’s leading tourism operator Ziptrek Ecotours is the first local business to jump on the bandwagon in support of next week’s annual Gay Ski Week QT with the team decorating the aptly-named Camp Street store in rainbow colours.

Known as the Southern Hemisphere’s largest Winter Pride event, DNA Gay Ski Week QT sees hundreds of gay men and women converge on Queenstown between next Saturday August 30 and September 6 for a week-long celebration of skiing, socialising and evenings full of fun.

The Ziptrek team’s display is part of DNA Gay Ski Week QT’s annual MoreFM ‘Gay on The Bay’ competition where local shops, cafes, stores and other businesses are encouraged to dress-up their windows and staff to win $1,000 worth of airtime on More FM.

“We get more and more businesses each year going rainbow for the week,” said Sally Whitewoods.

“We love the locals getting behind us and the event and there’s no better way to show support than to go rainbow. It’s our chance to showcase Queenstown at its best to the LGBT community.”

“This year we’ll also have the rainbow flag flying high throughout the main streets in support which is great. I went to San Francisco Pride earlier this year and all the stores there go hard out with their rainbow-themed decorations,” she said.

“I know Queenstown can do just as well, with a bit of thought and enthusiasm.”

Businesses wishing to enter should “camp it up for the day” by dressing up their staff or shop/office window, then simply take a photo of your display and enter online at

This year’s event has already exceeded the organisers’ expectations with increased bookings, near sold-out events and ‘all ticket’ passes selling “better than we’d hoped”.

“Tickets are selling for most of the key events, numbers are up yet again and the final night party promises to be the biggest dance party Queenstown has ever seen,” said Mrs Whitewoods.

“We’re in for an amazing week of fun, frivolity and skiing, we can’t wait for everyone to arrive.”

Tickets are now available from the new Gay Ski Week QT website and up-to-the-minute news can be found online at
