American Airlines will honor 100 team members tonight during the Annual Chairman’s Award celebration at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas. The Chairman’s Award is the highest honor that American bestows upon its team members.

“Annual Chairman’s Award winners are keenly focused on running a safe and reliable operation while providing extraordinary care for their colleagues, and the class of 2018 is no exception,” said American’s Chairman and CEO Doug Parker. “Many of tonight’s honorees have said ‘I was just doing my job,’ and indeed they may feel that way, but we know they have done so much more than that.”

Team members and their guests share in the special event, which includes notes of congratulations from friends and family, a special award trophy and $10,000. This year’s honorees and the important work they do span every aspect of operating a successful airline.

“When I first found out I was a Chairman’s honoree, my heart began racing 1,000 mph, and it still does when I think about it. I feel like I’m just doing my job,” said Amaya Garcia, an International Training Coordinator from Mexico City. “I can’t wait to meet the other honorees and share this experience with so many people that I feel fortunate to work with.”

“I’m so humbled and honored to receive the Annual Chairman’s Award,” DFW-based Captain Arthur “Rusty” McDaniels said. “I never thought I’d receive this award, and I feel like I’ve gotten here thanks to a lot of help from good friends over the years who have supported me throughout my career.”
