March 2021 marks the 11th anniversary of Dolphin Swim Australia’s history-making swims with wild, moving dolphins in Port Stephens – the first eco adventure of its kind in Australia and still the only permitted wild dolphin swim available in NSW.

To mark the 11th birthday, Dolphin Swim Australia is having a “Tag Your Friends” competition on its Facebook page with over $900 worth of prizes on offer, including a Wild Dolphin Swim with amazing oceanic dolphins, a framed colour print of dolphins taken by award-winning photographer, Gergo Rugli (www.rugliphoto.com), a Dolphin Watch (for that special someone to join you on the day of your swim), plus a video of all the incredible underwater action on the day of your tour. Since launching in Port Stephens, 2½ hours north of Sydney, in 2010, more than 10,500, snorkel-donned nature lovers aged from seven to 70 and from across Australia and around the world have enjoyed the bucket list experience of immersing themselves in the middle of a fast-moving pod of wild dolphins with Dolphin Swim Australia. Among them have been singer Delta Goodrem and TV’s Dr Chris Brown.

Years in the planning before it was launched with the seal of approval from government agencies, Dolphin Swim Australia is the result of an inspired dream by founder and CEO, Andrew Parker, to bring humans and dolphins closer together in a sustainable, mutually exciting way. Parker designed an ingenious, harm-free method whereby swimmers wore a wetsuit, mask and snorkel and were lowered into the water harnessed to a rope stretched between the two bows of a moving catamaran. So unlike other dolphin swims where people sit still in the water, which dolphins find boring, Dolphin Swim Australia encounters see pods of fast-moving dolphins surround swimmers, excited that humans can keep up with them. And humans are similarly enthralled to be part of the squeaky pod underwater, emerging from the experience on an inevitable high.

“Helping so many people interact with one of nature’s smartest and most amazing creatures over the past 11 years has been an absolute joy and I look forward to introducing the curious mammals to many more humans in the future,” said Mr Parker. “It’s a beautifully rare ‘wow’ experience that leaves a powerful and indelible mark on you.”

The four-hour, dawn dolphin swims will operate until April 25, 2021, and cost $329 per person for swimmers and $70 for spectators on the boat. Call 1300 721 358 or visit www.dolphinswimaustralia.com.au .
