The Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) announced that 25 businesses have been approved for the Guam Safe Certification and World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) Safe Travels stamp.
The program launched on March 15th as part of Governor Lou Leon Guerrero’s reopening plan for tourism. The program’s mission is to help rebuild confidence among the local community and visitors as travel restrictions ease and the tourism industry revives. GVB serves as the official organization to issue the certification and stamp to local businesses with the assistance of the Department of Public Health and Social Services.
“We have made great strides in our battle with this global pandemic. This stamp program is one of the ways that demonstrate to our community and visitor markets that Guam’s businesses are committed to the highest standards of safety and compliance,” said Governor Leon Guerrero. “I encourage all businesses to apply and get certified to further instill confidence around the world that Guam is taking proactive measures to control this virus.”
To date, 25 of 31 applications have been approved. The business applicants that have been issued certifications include Wild Bill’s, T Galleria by DFS, Jeff’s Pirate Cove, Guam Tropical Dive Station, Guam Reef Hotel, Guam Premier Outlets, Micronesia Mall, Triple J Rentals dba Hertz Licensee, Outback Steakhouse, Red Lobster Guam, Pacific Islands Club Guam, Onward Beach Resort, Min’s Lounge (Wagaya Hachi Hachi), Shirley’s Coffee Shop, Hotel Nikko Guam, Lotte Duty Free Guam, Days Inn by Wyndham Guam, Joeun Rent-A-Car & Travel, Country Club of the Pacific, Pacific Dining LLC dba LoneStar Steakhouse, Ignite LLC dba Crust Pizzeria Napoletana, Pacific Underwater Observatories dba Fish Eye Marine Park, Zi You Ren Travel Agency, Micronesia Assistance Inc., and Premier Beauty and Spa Guam Inc. dba Spa Ayualam.
“This program is a powerful symbol for visitors, island residents, and industry workers because it represents a consistent, global approach to safety practices developed in the midst of COVID-19,” said GVB Vice President Dr. Gerry Perez. “We want to thank the first wave of businesses that have applied for the stamp program and look forward to the approval of more businesses in the community.”
Guam Safe Certification was developed by the University of Guam School of Business and Public Administration and identifies establishments that have the highest compliance, care, and pride in following local government health and safety guidelines.
Additionally, the WTTC is recognized for creating the first-ever safety and hygiene stamp. This stamp enables travelers to identify destinations around the world that have adopted standardized health and hygiene protocols. The Safe Travels initiative is globally accepted and instills a level of confidence in both tourism trade and international visitors.
