Approximately half of the world’s population is now at risk of contracting dengue fever. With new and escalating outbreaks spreading across Southeast Asia, we’ve identified the nations with the highest risk for contracting the virus.

Our latest study, 5 Riskiest Nations for Contracting Dengue Fever in SE Asia, explores dengue fever outbreaks across Southeast Asia, including everything from case & death rates to strength of medical care. We researched 12 nations in the region and ranked them according to risk of fever contraction and probability of recovery:

  • Philippines: 400k+ cases in 2019, highest death rate in region

  • Maldives: Highest risk of contraction by population density

  • Indonesia: Only 0.4 physicians per 1,000 people

  • Sri Lanka: 104k+ cases with only 8% pop. size of Philippines

  • Laos: Lowest Healthcare Access & Quality Score: 36.6 / 100

Nations with the least risk in the region include New Zealand, Australia, Thailand and Singapore–even as outbreaks continue in many of these countries as well.
