Mr. Ahmad Al Abdulla, Chairman of Ahmed Al Abdulla Group (A.A.A.) and Mr. Abdulla Al Abdulla, Chief Operating Officer of A.A.A. & Central Hotels attended this week the Reaching the Last Mile Forum held at the Louvre Abu Dhabi. Supported by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the forum brought together over 250 global experts in a drive to eliminate the world’s most dangerous diseases.

Under the theme ‘accelerating the pace’, Reaching the Last Mile Forum is leading the fight against polio and malaria, as well as other neglected tropical diseases. The Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) will use the Abu Dhabi forum to seek new pledges of support, backed by the Crown Prince.

During the forum a special ceremony was organised for winners of the 2019 Recognising Excellence around Champions of Health (REACH) Awards. Established by the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, the biennial Reach Award, REACH acknowledges those who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership and commitment in the field of disease elimination. Awards were presented on stage by Mr. Bill Gates, Co-chairman of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The global leaders have pledged US$2.6 billion as part of the first phase of funding needed to implement the Global Polio Eradication Initiative’s Polio Endgame Strategy 2019-2023.
