A gift from Japan to USA’s capital blooms Washington, DC with Cherry Blossoms each springtime

The gift of over three thousand trees from the people of Japan and Tokyo Mayor Yukio Ozaki to President Taft and the United States as a sign of friendship between the two nations is the history behind Washington, DC’s renowned cherry blossoms that bloom each springtime around three National Park locations throughout the city.

In 1934, the District of Columbia sponsored a three-day celebration around the blooming of the trees that has today expanded to a month-long festival promoting traditional and contemporary arts and culture, natural beauty, and community spirit to become the nation’s greatest springtime celebration.

This year, the National Cherry Blossom Festival runs from 20 March to 14 April with several signature events.  Guests already travelling to the USA should mark this celebration in their calendars as a must-see reason to visit Washington, DC.  For travellers looking for a reason to book and travel now, Tour Radar is offering a 5-night package to the DC Cherry Blossom Festival from $1294pp. Call 07 3106 8663 for details.
