Wilson has been found, just like the abandoned volleyball Tom Hanks found to keep him company in Castaway, a sad and solitary reminder, of once bustling hotels, now shuttered under Government laws to outride COVID-19.
Wilson, Brett Wilson, that is, has been General Manager of the exotic Pullman Phuket Naithon Beach since it opened in 2013.
Once the location of international TV shoots, fancy film series settings, and luxury digs to celebrities from around the world, Brett is now isolated at the closed Resort with only a giant gym ball to keep he and his family company.
But it is not all bad news for Wilson.
He gets to go to the gym, swim in the resort pools, cycle around the sprawling grounds, watch the sunset from the lounge in a private villa and caretake, in isolation with his family of four.
Maintaining his Australian sense of humor, he named his big blue gym ball Wilson, and delights in taking it with him on his resort tours, to mealtimes and for a swim to help them both keep their cool in the hot Thai weather, usually lapped up by hordes of tourists.
With the Resort closed until approximately July 1, essential maintenance is still being carried out, with the sales and marketing team planning for the future re-opening.
“Whilst many people have been isolating within the confines of their apartments or houses, they can relax, knowing that they too, can soon enjoy all the Resort’s benefits, including access to several dining outlets (not takeaway), a gym, sprawling pools, a cocktail bar, stunning sunsets – and a generous supply of toilet paper,” said Brett Wilson.
When Brett Wilson is gearing up to re-open, it will see him busier for the next few months, so Bluey Wilson may find himself abandoned once again.
